In addition to the Officer of the Year, the Rotary Club of Fort Myers South will also be celebrating a K-9 Officer of the Year at the 5th annual Law & Order Ball to be held on Sept. 15 at Germain Arena. For the second year, the Rotary Club of Fort Myers South will recognize a K-9 Officer for their service to one of the local law enforcement agencies. This year, there are three nominees from the Fort Myers Police Department, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, and Lee County Port Authority Police for the prestigious recognition. The winner will be announced at the event.

Last year, K-9 Officer Nate from the Cape Coral Police Department was honored as the K-9 Officer of the Year. K9 Nate has been with the Cape Coral Police Department since 2012 and has assisted with more 350 arrests. K9 Nate was graciously donated to the Cape Coral Police Department by Rich and Debbie Burnfield, in honor of their late son Nathan Burnfield, who was killed in the line of duty on a traffic stop in South Strabane Township, Washington, PA.

The following Lee County Law Enforcement agencies are beneficiaries of the Rotary Club of Fort Myers South’s fundraising through the Law & Order Ball: Cape Coral Police Department, Florida Gulf Coast University Police, Florida SouthWestern State College Police Department, Fort Myers Police Department, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Lee County Port Authority Police, and Sanibel Police Department.

The Law & Order Ball will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, at Germain Arena, located at 11000 Everblades Parkway in Estero. Paying tribute to Lee County law enforcement officers, the event raises funds for the Rotary Club of Fort Myers South Foundation, which provides grants to Lee County law enforcement agencies and local non-profit organizations. Registration for the evening celebration is $175 per person and $1,750 for a table for 10 guests. Now in its fifth year and celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Rotary Club of Fort Myers South, the black-tie optional gala is hosted by the Rotary Club of Fort Myers South and is open to the public.
